Long Beans are mainly a warm-season crop and will survive extreme humidity and heat. It can be planted in a wide range of climatic conditions but is very sensitive to cold temperatures. The plant is an annual, climbing shrub with long vines that can reach over 15 meters in length. The crop matures in about 140 days after sowing and at the time of maturity the pods are 12 to 18 inches long. The beans are long but tender and mostly used for cooking purposes. They are low-calorie vegetables and contain a large amount of minerals, vitamins A and C.
