Phaseolus vulgaris L
French bean is one of the most popular and widely grown vegetables in India. Cultivated in the states Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Kashmir. The crop will be ready for picking 40 to 50 days after sowing, depending on the variety and season of cultivation. Harvesting will be done during the cool periods of the day, mostly early morning. French beans are highly perishable and therefore they will be cooled rapidly after harvesting, this to maintain quality. French beans taste sweet, tender and wonderfully crispy. They are a very good source of folate and iron, dietary fibre, and vitamin A, B2, C, D and K.
