Lagenaria siceraria
Bottle gourd can vary in size shape and length depending on how it is grown and when it is harvested. Its skin is most often smooth and its colouring can vary from a light green to dark green. The interior flesh is creamy white with little seeds, which are only edible, when the Bottle gourd is young. When more mature the seeds become hard and should be removed prior to consumption. The young bottle gourd squash offers a mild flavour reminiscent of a cucumber with a firm texture. This vegetable is low in calories and rich in fibres and it provides small amounts of vitamin C, folate, calcium, iron, zinc and B vitamins.
